Armour Ellington Hancock

Armour Ellington Hancock was born 11 August 1877 in Mariposa County, ON. His parents, William and Ellen (Birmingham) Hancock had 2 daughters and 2 sons, as well as 2 sons that died during infancy. Sadly, Armour also experienced this tragedy in 1909 when his wife Margaret (McNabb) died giving birth prematurely to their son William Alexander, who died a month later. Armour remarried in 1911 to Minnie Alberta James, who was also a widow, and became father to her 4 children. They had a daughter together, Hazel, who was named after Armour’s youngest sister.

On 18 June 1915, Armour enlisted with the 39th Battalion 1st Reinforcement Draft in Lindsay ON. A butcher by trade, he was first made the Armourer until February 1917, and was then a butcher until February 1918. He was admitted to the Voluntary Aid Hospital in Ashford England in November 1918 suffering from influenza, and died of that illness on 20 November 1918. His twin brother, Arthur, received the sad notice.

Armour Hancock is buried in Ashford Cemetery, Kent, England. He was 41 years old.
